#SmartHomeRevolution for the Disabled

“Google Home, speak the truth.”

“#SmartHomeRevolution is here.”

Smart is clearly the new in. There is no one happier about this than me.

With the woke movement, people evolving into their better versions, more content to read and more to learn from, it is the era of everything smart. The lazy ones like me are getting it all, thanks to Smart Technology that promises to make life a ‘smart lit’ path of precise commands.

Smart Technology? What’s that?

Wiki defines a smart system as one that incorporates functions of sensing, actuation, and control in order to describe and analyze a situation and make decisions based on the available data in a predictive or adaptive manner, thereby performing smart actions.

These smart systems incorporated into daily devices make smart technology.

Flipkart in India has really turned out to be a leader of #SmartHomeRevolution by bringing these devices to our doorstep at the expense of a simple click.

These devices are quickly making their way into homes, easing our lives and for those who choose to want it – making them fitter in the process.

A lot has been written and discussed regarding the pros and cons of the smart revolution taking over our generation, but my take on this is a particular sector focused.

Its ability to help the disabled people.

Disability in simple terms is a physical, mental, cognitive, or developmental condition that impairs, interferes with or limits a person’s ability to engage in certain tasks or actions or participate in typical daily activities and interactions.

Now while smart technology has enhanced lifestyles of the general population,  the disabled too have benefited greatly from this revolution. It is a powerful cape which enables the disabled to shade their insecurities and increases independence. It assists them to become communicate effectively and be a part of activities that help develop their cognitive skills.

Someone who has impaired eyesight need not have to depend on those around him to function when he gets home. A quick instruction to a Smart Home device and voila! his home is alive with music he loves. The fan is at his verbal mercy and the lights dance to his words.

An independent working woman having a physical disability can safely enjoy the sanctuary of her home with a Smart Camera. It ensures she doesn’t have to live with her guard constantly up, and would not have to depend on a third person for her constant security.

How effectively has Smart technology worked at empowering their physical and mental self-esteem!

Assistive Technology has advanced with great leaps and bounds in the past few years in India. With nearly 40% of smart tech products being sold on #Flipkart, it has helped bridge the gap between various sectors of people, evoked interest to remain fit amongst all age groups and well and truly made minimalistic; the new beautiful.

Being passionately tilted towards the cause of empowering disabled population, my perspective can only be grateful about how brilliantly smart technology has come to be their faithful pet.

With a long way to go, in terms of reaching out to the majority of this sector, small steps taken toward this initiative can really be bountiful.

Also being a little-spoilt woman at heart, I have selfishly allowed smart technology to spoil me. There is not a day I go about without yelling an order or two at Google Home. It has become a constant virtual companion in my silent home!

Now is that really a sad thing?

🙂
